1993 4.3L Timing - Need a quicky! :)

Hey there experts. I just swapped out my distributor, so I go check the Haynes book on how to set timing. Says I need to check the decal under the hood for special instructions. You'd think this would be so simple, Haynes could spell it out, but nope...

The decal says:
Quote:
Put the distrubutor ignition system in bypass mode by disconnecting the timing connector.
So I check Haynes and it says nothing about what a "timing connector" is. I'd guess it's one of the electrical connectors on the distributor, but there's more than one and it may be something else entirely!

Where's the "timing connector"? I checked through the site here - did a search but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Matt

the connector is usually under the dash on the passenger side just inside the firewall. single wire connector, tan w/white tracer. look for the group of wires coming inside to go to the computer

Thank You

Got it!

Thanks DAB77. My wire was tan with a black stripe, but it was pretty obvious it was the right one. um... I think.

Got the timing fixed up now. I actually used the truck yesterday to pick up a ton of coal while it was warm and rainy, but didn't want to shovel it in the rain. Overnight the stuff froze up solid, so the truck has the timing fixed but I don't want to test drive it till I get it shoveled out (it's sitting up on blocks to make it easier to shovel... <long story>). Should warm up this week, so I'll test drive it later. I'm sure it'll run great though.

Cheers!
