91 Jeep Cherokee Limited Electrical Problems

Hi I have a 91 Jeep cherokee that is having electrical problems with the battery getting drained (I searched around on google and have found that some other people have had this issue but haven't found an answer). This was my brother's jeep before he moved to arizona so I'm not exactly sure about all the symptoms (I have some idea) but basically if left sitting and not started for more then a day the battery will be dead my brother unplugged the fuse for the power windows/locks/seats and it reduced the problem but it is still there. Anyway figuring it might be a common problem and something that someone might know something about I decided to post here. My Dad thinks it's probally something in the design of the jeep so I was hoping you guys could help if it's a common thing.

Re: 91 Jeep Cherokee Limited Electrical Problems

Nami,
An electrical draw can be a hard or easy thing to find. The best way is to get a good volt/amp meter. With everything off, and your courtesy lights removed, undo the negative cable and place a jumper between the cable end and the battery terminal. Let the vehicle set for about 30 minutes. Then take your meter, set it to mAmps, connect the black lead to the negative terminal and the Red to the cable terminal. Now disconnect the jumper you first installed, you should now see a reading on your meter, it should read less than .050 milli amps. IF its close to it (less than .080 milli amp) than you have a weak battery and no draw. If you have a high reading start by watching the meter as you pull fuses. IF you remove a fuse and it drops to good limit, you found the circuit that is drawing your battery down. ( remove the fuses and ONLY install after all circuits are checked. )
ALso try testing the battery, take it to a reputable parts store and have them check it. MAy have a weak cell.

Re: 91 Jeep Cherokee Limited Electrical Problems

I'll do that when I get the chance in the meantime since I already know that the power windows/lock/seats/mirrors is one of the draws is there a common spot for there to be a draw on 91 jeeps off of that fuse?
