Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

This bike will be build for the SPC Ducati Contest.

It's from Tamiya of course

Because the build guide doesn't have any TS colournumbers and only uses RED GREEN and GOLD LEAVE, I thought that these colours would be the same:

First I primed the body and frame parts.

Than I also started with the engine which is nearly completed. Can't go further because it must be placed into the frame now.

I also drilled the holes in the 3 brakediscs. 300+ holes to drill :S After that I painted it. Sorry for the bad photo.

And yesterday I painted the wheels in gold. After that I clearcoated them.

At the moment I'm painting the body and frame parts in Italian Red

Kris.

Re: Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

That engine looks good. Did you paint it or it came like that in the kit?

Re: Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

New update!

I really like to build this bike and work on it all the time I have at the moment.

First I already painted the oil cap and the rearshocks.

The rearlink is also ready after I placed all the components of it.

I also painted the frame in Tamiya Italian Red. After 3 layers I sprayed some Clear over it.

Now it was time to paint some frameparts and add some other parts like the battery etc.

I also putted the engine into the frame.

I also painted the body parts in Italian Red. 3 layers where enough (spraycan was also empty )

Now I have to mask the front to paint the underside in green. The white striping decal must camouflade the line between these 2 colors.

And I put the rearlink on the frame.

This week I hope to mask the front bodypart to paint it green. I also want to finish the exhaust with some heating stains.

Kris.

Re: Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

Yesterday I placed the exhaustpipes.

Before placing them, I used the Tamiya Wheateringset to make some blue/orange heatings in the corners. After that I clearcoated them.

I also placed some small other parts on the frame.

And now the best

I masked of the bodypart with some 0.4mm masking tape. This works very good and you can mask it in all kind of corners. The rest was also masked but with some wider tape of course

After 3 layers of green I thought it was enough.

A couple hours later I removed the masking tape and this is the result A very smooth line between red and green

This evening I hope to add the decals and clearcoat all the body parts.

Kris.

Re: Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

After adding the decals, it was time to clearcoat it.

The headlight was also finished and also the dashboard with some meters.

The rearlights and the turnlights are also finished.

And last but not least the frontfork. I painted the forks in semigloss black.

All the other parts are already painted so I only have to glue them on the bike. This week I hope to complete it, but first I have to polish the bodyparts.

Re: Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica

Pretty amazing shine on the bodywork...and then I read that you haven't polished it yet! Oh and top work on getting such a smooth line. Can't wait to see it finished (and even more shiny )
