Year to Year Electrical ?

So the eclipse I picked up ends up having a fried ECU come to find out. It's a 1998 but it has the wire harness of a different car i'm not sure what but whatever. Anyways I spent about 2 1/2 hours today stripping the inside and removing the dash to put in the wire harness from my white 97 GS.

So after I do this I notice a few things are still missing plugs such as 2 spots on the blower motor for climate , some down by the fuse block , the dash lights don't work and the car will not turn over now.

Heres what I know of it - Repo -> stolen back from Repo -> trashed by owners -> Re-repo'd and then sold to me.

Everything as far as turn signals , headlights , hazard lights , stereo , A/C , dome lights , SRS , CEL , Brake, etc clutster lights ( minus actual back light for night driving. ) all works...all I can say is WTF!

I have not missed a single thing , over looked anything and all the fuses are in good shape..i'm at a complete loss right now. OH and the under hood harness looks a lot differen than mine and wtf with there being some sensor on the coolant bottle :/

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

The coolant sensor comes on when the bottles gets low. Mine has it, but has NEVER come on. I've seen quite a few of them without the sensors.

The rest, IDK.

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

OK well heres some pictures...

We'll start with the bottle sensor -> In this pic you can see it circled and the plug is there but it has been cut from the wires...

In this picture here , the upper right corner has what looks to be 4 relays..my others only have 3. The lower right portion circled looks as if it's 2 ECU's or something or another..

In this one here , right behind the glove box - there was two plugs for whatever these are but after wire harness change one remains empty...

In this one there are 2 different male / female plugs here. One from the harness with only 2 and the one mounted to the blower motor with what looks to be either a 6 or 8 pin connecter.

I only paid a little bit for it =) so I don't mind investing a few bucks if need be.

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

Well fuck..I called a friend who was a lead mechanic at Ken Garff Mitsu. a while back and he says that it sounds like they put old parts in it or something ? I don't know but basically it has a 95' system in it or some shit and won't work with the 97' cab harness.

So now I get the wonderous joys of changing the engine bay harness and shit -_- not a big deal since I have all the crap from my 97' but god damn I do not enjoy this ...

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

So what are the differences in the 2G NT's as far as electrical from 1995 - 96 - 97 - 98 & 1999 ?

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

The 2 ECUs are for automatics. One for the ECU, the other for the tranny ECU.

Still not sure on differences though

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

The only real big thing between the electrical years is the ECU I believe. The 95-96 has a smaller computer than the 97-99. Those relays up on the firewall are for different things. IIRC, one of them is for the tranny on an auto, one is an automatic shutdown relay (ASD), and I believe the othe 2 are for the ignition/starting system.

One of the replay on the firewall goes to the fuel pump.

Re: Year to Year Electrical ?

OK I think I got it figured out. Fired it up , let it reach OT and checked out the guages and everything works as far as RPM , fuel , Temp , PB light , tail lights work , head lights work , heater / a/c work , rear defrot works , hazards work , turn signals were blinking rapidly before harness change but work normal now , horn works , SRS system funtioning so all good there...

However ! I cannot seem to get the god damn dash lights to work for the life of me..wtf ? -_- All fuses are good , connectors are locked in place from the colum to the harness , the switch when activated works for headlights , parking lights , tail lights and high beams but no dash lights...for the love of anything help...lol
