Thumbs up Re: 2004 highlander maint req light

Yesterday the Check Engine Light came on in my 2003 Highlander... I made an appointment at my local garage to have them look at it today, thinking to myself that this is going to cost a fortune with the computers and all that stuff OMG!!.. meanwhile I did a Google search for "Toyota Highlander 2003 CEL" and came upon the Automotive Forums with a thread related to this issue... it seems that other Toyotoa owners have found that when the oil filter is changed sometimes a vacuum hose behind the air cleaner box gets disconnected (it's not easily seen apparently). Well to make a long story short after I read about it in this forum I emailed my local garage in the am to ask them to check this out on my car when they ran the diagnostic codes because they had just changed the oil and filter in my car a few days ago... Well.... I got a phone call at 2:00 from the garage.. telling me thanks for the quick email.. and YES! it was that stupid vacuum hose which had come loose while they changed the oil. SMILE... I went to pick up the car... no cost.. no bill because it was their error! What a garage!!!! Anyway the mechanic said that this is fairly common and the reason it happens is because the vacuum hose is too short and when it pops off the back of the air cleaner box often it isn't easy to detect it.. I want to thank EVERYONE on this forum who sends in posts... the real power of the internet... is knowledge... have a good one!!!
