Unhappy 2001 Venture Driver's Door Window

My wife's driver's side door window has stopped working. It has been doing the "infamous" slow and rock as it rises for some time now, but the other day it stopped working altogether.

If you try to put it down it goes down about 1/2" and then stops. It will not do anything until it sits for a minute of two and then you can out it back up.

Is the motor shot? I thought maybe it was binding and some sort of safety was cutting off the motor for so long before allowing it to run again.

If it's the motor, am I going to need to replace the regulator as well?

Re: 2001 Venture Driver's Door Window

Been working on a co-workers 02. I addressed the window tilt or rocking in the track seen about half way up. It turns out the forward vertical track was loose along with all the tracks requiring much needed lubrication.

If the tilting had been an ongoing problem and was allowed to continue like that for longer than it should have it will put unneeded stress on the window motor and at some point the motor or other component n the system could fail. there is a chance the motor has developed a dead spot in the armature something not servicable.

I did notice the entire window track assembly has some slop in it, and @ 80k miles it to be expected I would guess. After the adjustment and lube it works perfect again. I suspect your motor may be getting hot and needs just a minute or so to work again. Try adjusting and lubrication the tracks. Cycle the window with the door panel off and watch the tracks.

Warm would be good, the panel is a challenge to remove due to the overly stiff plastic push pins along the outside perimeter of the panel that attach it to the door shell. The window switch control panel unsnaps from the door panel you will find one of the two screws under that toward the rear of the opening the second being up under the rear part of the door handle.

Thumbs up Re: 2001 Venture Driver's Door Window

a long flat screwdriver will reach all of the clips before you get ready to do it go to a parts store and get a pack of g.m. panel clips you will need 15 or so.and a can of the white lube i can't think of what its called but they use it to lube the door hinges at a lot of shops.the parts guy will know what you want.pull up the door lock and window control holder out by prying up on one end.there is a #10 bolt under this, and one under the door handle remove both. start at the bottom popping the clips out by feeling for the clip and putting the screwdriver close as you can to the clip do this all the way up on both sides there will be some middle way up in the middle of the panel also.when you get the clips loose you have to pull on the door latch and move the panel outward.push the doorlock, window control holder through the opening in the panel. then as you pull the plastic away cut the strings of neoprene as you pull plastic off. now you will see two #10 bolts on the right side of the door.loosen these and reach in and pull the window guide to the left and tighten the bolts back up. now look for a black arm with a bolt on the right end of it.loosen the bolt and push the arm all the way to the bottom of the adjustment.tighten it up. spray some of the lube in the track at the right side of the window. turn the key on and let the window down.spray some lube in the right side track rest of the way up not a whole lot. the at the bottom of the window there is a channel that needs some lube sprayed on the guides that push and pull the window up and down..now try the window and see if it goes up and down smooth.if it runs smooth turn the key off and push the plastic over the door handle and back as it was. and check the old clips and replace the ones broken or stripped out.put the panel up put the button holder back through the panel and the panel over the door handle and bump the clips back in place put the two bolts back in and watch and don't overtighten them pop the button holder back in.just done mine yesterday takes about 30 minutes.just go slow and easy so you don't bust the panel.

Re: 2001 Venture Driver's Door Window

Stop. Do not take the panel off unless you have tried spraying silicone lube (soak em) in the vertical tracks (with the window down) at the front and back of the window. This stopped my rocking. You may need someone operating the toggle as you influence the window to not rock as it moves over the silicone soaked felt. This cured my DS window rocking problem in my 97 two years ago and I have not sprayed or seen the problem since.

For the inoperation, it could be the infamous DS toggle going bad and needs to be replaced, water under the carpet and corroding the wiring at floor at the front PS, or lastly, the window motor or fuse. Good luck. Tell us what cured it.

Re: 2001 Venture Driver's Door Window

if it still doesn't work it is going to be the window switch has got hot from the window tilting and the contacts are burnt.i have taken them apart and scraped the contacts and they will work again. but there are some springs that will come out as it comes apart.
