Thumbs down 3.4 - 3.1?

does anyone know if u could swap out a 3.4 and put in a 3.1
i found another z34 with fubar;d motor, and i know where there is a brand newer 3.1 with less than 1000k on it.
then i could have a reliable Z34 as well as the one im in love with lol
but seriously,i think it would be great for my wife

I have a 89 Z24 (Cavilear) a lot of guys swap out the 2.8/3.1 engines and put 3.4's in them, from what i understand, everything on the Z24 will work with a 3.4 engine, except the 3.4 injector harness has to be put on the Z car because it is different, I dont know about yours, and also something about the AIT sensor being different, so all in all, it isnt that bad if you want to do it, engine will mount up same asa 3.1 because they share the same engine block, now i am sure there are other little tidbits that may need changed or whatever, but it shouldnt be a big deal. There is a fourm for the 3.1 to 3.4 swap on the Z24 message board i belong too, you can try there and check out the stickys on swaps, they include, going from 2.8/3.1 to a 3100,3.4, 3500 up to a 3.8/

Yes, a 3.4 is a easy swap in 89 thru mid 90's second generation J bodies that had a 2.8 or 3.1 as a original engine, loads of those swaps done by guys on the Z24 board. Including newer supercharged 3.8's although a 3.8 does require a 3.8 computer and harness and all hand made engine mounts, believe me, some of the guys there know what they are doing, a few reprograms proms as well.
Ill tell ya, a turbo 3.4 or SC 3.8 in a Cavilear makes one quick car.. I plan on a 3.4 NA swap myself in the future.
The Z board is a nuts and bolts board, everything from engine swaps, tranny swaps, larger brakes on front, converting rear drum to disc brakes, body work, you name it. best site ever for J bodies.
I had W body before my J, fact the 3.1 i put in the 89 Z was from a 93 Grand Prix LE. Wish it ha been a GTP And between the 2 cars, there was everything needed to put it in the J. bought nothing.
So i cant see much difficulity in the swap mentioned here, actually maybe less hard if the donor car is approx. same year W body.
