'83 3.8L knocking after oil change??
I recently bought an '83 model Olds Cutlass with the 3.8L Buick engine (so I am told) hence the post in the "BUICK" section. 250$ Started right up, sounded good too. Ran pretty good too, a little weak, but good. Motor was pretty quiet. It had a lifter tapping that would come and go. I decided (stupidly) to add a cleaner to the crankcase, a good one too, Seafoam, to clean or loosen the sludge before I changed the oil. I changed the oil and added 10w-30. When I fired it up afterwards, it was now sounding like a diesel. I let it run for a couple of minutes to see if would stop, it didnt. It started to overheat, misfire, and then proceeded to stall. Drained the oil and added straight 40w, problem still there. I have been told to put straight 50w oil in and prime the oil pump with grease or petroleum jelly or something like that. I am considering buying a kit for the oil pump. I am not sure what all is involved in doing that. Any suggestions, ideas, or comments would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
