Fuel Level inconsistent

Has anyone experienced a variance in the fuel level between starts. When running errands, I was in and out of the vehicle and the fuel level would be 1/8 full then next start it would be 3/8 full and following start would be less than 1/8 and then back up again. I typically keep the tank near full since we often hit temperatures below 0 degree F and want to avoid condensation.

anyone out there with this issue and solutions, I would be greatful.

usually when the fuel gauge starts getting eratic it isn't long before the fuelpump goes out. i think g.m. has a cleaner that is supposed to clean the fuel sensor [which is on the side of the fuelpump inside the gas tank] you might try some of it and see if it makes the fuel gauge work.

Re: Fuel Level inconsistent

My 02 had same problem. Bought new unit ( contains pump, gage unit and float ). That fixed the problem. The gage unit starts shorting across itself causes the problem. Cost around $ 300.00.

Re: Fuel Level inconsistent

You can buy a new sender on ebay for $25. The pivot where the float connects to the pc board wears out and gets loose over time. This allows the wiper contacts to move away from the board and not make contact. I tried to fix mine, but its not possible--the plastic gets worn were the brass bushing rotates on it. $25 is a good price to pay to fix that problem.
