Help!!! Check Engine light #P0446

I got the code and it has to do with my evap canister vent may be blocked. So where is this canister? and how should I go about fixing this problem. Do I need to drain the gas or can i just take the hoses off the evap canister to do work on it once I find it. Are there any diagrams or pictures of how to do this?

Re: Help!!! Check Engine light #P0446

P0446 indicates a malfunction in the canister vent circuit. This can include wiring to the vent solenoid, the solenoid itself, or any of the hoses to and from the solenoid. The year, make, model and engine, will determine where the solenoid is located.

Re: Help!!! Check Engine light #P0446

I bought a new ven solinoid and the check engine light still came back on even though it smelled like the vent solinoid was working when i was under my car with the ignition on. Any other ideas?

The code is EVPA system canister vent solenoid blocked.
Three things to check for.
Solenoid working and opening.
All hoses open and not stopped up or kincked/pinched.
And the vent canister open and not stopped up.

Re: Help!!! Check Engine light #P0446

a p0446 is really difficult to diagnose at home.

Technically, it's a code for blockage, but it will still set on some cars due to a leak. So I always check for leaks first ... with a smoke machine ... but sometimes the leak is obvious enough to see visually. I test the gas cap with a gas cap tester also, but 9 out of 10, you can tell that the gas cap seal is damaged if it does in fact test bad.

There isn't a way to "test" your charcoal cannister. You can weigh it and see if it is within specs ... if you can get specs. But more often than not, they clog as opposed to getting saturated, and there is no way to test flow.

Your fuel tank pressure sensor could be bad. Your cannister purge valve could be bad.
