Where ther big changes from '98 to '99?

Would Gm shop manuals from '99 be fine to use working on a '98?

The rule of thumb is to stay with the FSM/Shop Manual for your year. The '99 will be useable for your '98 but just one example of the differences is if you get an ABS problem you may be in for a surprise because the ABS system changed in 1999 to include component configuration/layout, wiring, wiring color coding and diagnostic procedures, etc. Plus there are other subtle differences and normally you won't find out until you use the manual and run into the discrepancies. Then the head scratching starts.

I agree with Bob. There are many revisions that started in the 99 model year that could be different from your 98. For general repairs, much of the info would be the same, but wiring schematics and such could be very different.

Then the second question is, for 1998 must I have the second edition or will the first do fine?

I have a set of factory service manuals for my 99, and they come in 3 volumes. Each volume covers different areas of the vehicle. You'll need all three to cover the car completely.

Thank you again. I'm aware that it is "volume" 1,2,3. However those 3 volumes say "second Edition" across the cover, no?

There is a set of GM factory manuals that is 4 books, 2 thick, 2 thin, for the 98 that do not say second edition. I was curious about the revisions in the books.

Most revisions from one edition to the next cover updates in GM part numbers, special tools, proceedures, etc... For a DIY, either would serve you well.
