2001 jimmy daytime running lights turn off.

I just bought a 2001 jimmy with 108k on it. When we where driving it home ( someone driving the jimmy following me in another car) I looked back when making a turn and noticed that when the driver of the jimmy made the turn he used the turn signal and made the turn and the daytime running lights went out and as he striaghten and turned the signal off the daytime lights came on again. This continued no matter which way we turned, But when the car was parked we tried the turn signals and turn the wheel and the lights stayed on. Please help me in solving this problem !!!! Did you buy it from a dealer or used car lot or from a private source?
I would drive it again and see if it still does it.
Or just does it when it is moving or at what speeds.

Also find a dealer or car lot with one just like it and see if it also does the same thing.
Or ask a GMC jimmy dealer about it.
As it could be normal operation.
Could be that.
In daytime they may turn off the running lights to be able to see or notice the turn signals better.
Let us know how it goes.

Make sure it does not do it with the regular head lights on.

Thanks for your input, I bought from a used car lot but the owner is a friend of mine and a good mechanic. He never noticed them going off but how would you if you are driving the car.We tired it when it was parked and nothing happened, I plan to drive it myself to see if they go out without using the signals and other tests that I may think of such as your speed suggestion. He said he has no problems with the lights at night so we are ok there. I just want to know if it is normal or a problem that needs to be fixed, I don't want the car to catch fire due to a short or some type of electrical problem. If it is a problem he said he would fix it so no worries there. I just want to know for my own piesce of mind. Thanks again for your help and the Welcome to this site.

You are welcome.
Most of the stuff is fused or relayed so not much danger of melting it down.
To be sure if it is normal for them to do that I would or have car lot owner call the GMC/CHEV dealer and ask if it is normal for them to do that.

I think the parking break turns some of them off to so check if it may have been on or stuck on a little.

Talked to a dealer they said it's not normal, Then read on line that it is normal. Still checking into it, suprised no one on this site in this forum has never had this problem or situation before.

This is normal operation. The DLR's turn off because they over power the turn signals during daylight operation making them less noticeable.

There was a funny segment on NPR's Car Talk show a few years ago when a lady called in to complain about the same problem. Seems her problem was that she was an attractive young blond and when she used her turn signals on the freeway to change lanes some truckers would think she was a hooker flashing them and follow her home.
