tire help!

I have 2000 silvy 1500 extended cab, 4-wheel drive, small v-8. I am confused with tire sizing. My door sticker reads P265/75-16. The tires currently on there are LT265/75-16. I don't do any real heavy hauling, sometimes pulling a utility trailer.
My question is do I need to replace with the LT or can i use P-metric.
Please i don't need tire brand info, just a general reason for the difference.

thanks

lt tires are truck tires p tires are passenger tires....the truck tires will wear better than pass. but pass will give better mileage...also in bad road conditions the Lt tires will give better control....traction...
