Re: Have they lost their mind?

Quite a bit of it probably has to do w/ the terrible exchange rate at the moment.

However, Im sure it probably comes w/ an insane amount of parts. Its a multimedia set, so it sounds like it probably comes w/ white metal parts along w/ the photoetch.

Re: Have they lost their mind?

It has nothing to do with the exchange rate. 17,143 Yen is still 17,143 Yen no matter how worthless the Dollar is, and it's far too much to pay for photoetch. Truthfully, the Dollar/Yen rate isn't so terrible right now- it's still reasonable to order kits from Japan. It's the Euro and Pound that the Dollar is truly worthless against.

I'd guess that multimedia implies white metal and/or turned parts. But I wouldn't buy it unless I knew for sure.

But if you want detail, why not just buy the Tamiya Enzo instead...?

Re: Have they lost their mind?

I suggest the reason this kit is so costly is that Acustion product has always been WAAAAAY overpriced crap!

Re: Have they lost their mind?

Uhh, yeah, that is ridiculous. Acu-Stion also has a set of front and rear shocks for the Carrera GT that cost $60.00. I don't think so! Their prices used to be reasonable, but no more. Crazy Modeler, etc. are producing better detail sets.

I've used a few of the crazy modeler sets and they really are excellent bang for the buck!

Re: Have they lost their mind?

Similar AST set for Tamiya kit was $200 at the time. Not surprising. But AST detail sets are not worth the money, any money.

Re: Have they lost their mind?

i agreed.

AST is like 'gold' in terms of aftermarket pricing...and i don't see much of the differences between AST & the rest; namely crazymodelor etc. yes, its p/e is very thin compared to the rest but NOT all the p/e parts required fr the car needed THAT thin to look realistic!

Re: Have they lost their mind?

Vastly overpriced,as are all there sets. They really need to look at their pricing policy. There are much better value sets available at much cheaper prices, namely Crazy Modeler to name but one.

Re: Have they lost their mind?

Aside from the ridiculous pricing is the fact that many of their parts don't fit properly and are therefore nearly unusable. To me there is no excuse for this. Items that cost this much need to be perfect.

Seems there are plenty of model enthusiasts that are easy prey for the "jewelry" that's sold to detail them. I'll bet a ton of these sets get sold and never get used. I bought a bunch of detail parts for my Tamiya Enzo. Yawn.

It's ironic that Fujimi comes out with a well-executed, simple, buildable Enzo (that in itself pisses off some ) that will look great on the shelf w/o spending a year building...and Acu Stion responds with this for that? They ought to throw in a Tamiya Enzo to complete the multi-media package

I love seeing ultra-detailed models w/these kinds of details...but honestly how many people are actually buying AND building? The vast majority remain under a closed lid as a dream in a box never realized. We get inspired by seeing the ultra-detailed models, but don't have the time/energy/motivation to go to that level on our own builds. Some of us like simpler models that aren't life-consuming. Finishing a model is my best inspiration to build another. I can't fathom building any model that requires over 30 or 40 hours, and most of mine take well under 20 to finish. That's what keeps me happy. I love the Crazy Modeler approach to emblems; a sheet good for many models, w/o going completely overboard with other stuff. KISS, at it's very best.

Re: Have they lost their mind?

Those specification PE plates alone have been around 20 to 30 dollars. Never bought AST anyway because of the price. Even for European standards of pricing it is to expensive compared to the rivals.
