Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
I'm not sure what car/parts availability is like over there in Serbia, but here in the US the JDM ZC1 shares it's crankshaft and rods with all other 1.5L or 1.6L D-series motors. This means if you need to replace the crankshaft, most any Honda SOHC crankshaft will fit in your ZC1. An 86-89 Acura Integra DOHC D16A1 (US) or 85-89 Honda/Acura Integra D16A3 (Australia), D16A8 and D16A9 (Europe) crankshaft is proven to work since it is an identical motor to the ZC1.
Just be careful if you end up with an '88 or newer crankshaft since your ZC1 has a 22mm crank snout and the 88+ motors have a 24mm crank snout. All this means is that you will also need the crankshaft pulley that matches your crankshaft. If you need a replacement motor, look for an 85-87 Honda/Acura "Integra" DOHC motor. An 88-89 Honda/Acura Integra shortblock will also work if you don't mind slightly higher compression pistons. Do not use the 88-89 Integra head since it is designed for an electronic advance distributor. Please note that the 90+ Integra uses a completely different motor, and 88+ Civic uses different motor mounts on the block and a different cylinder head. Neither of these motors will directly bolt into your car, but the 88+ Civic crankshaft and rods will work in your motor. In a nutshell: Crankshaft (replacement) 85-89 Honda/Acura Integra DOHC 85-00 Honda Civic D-series SOHC or DOHC Longblock (complete engine) 85-87 Honda/Acura Integra DOHC 85-87 Honda Civic DOHC Shortblock (block only) 85-87 Honda/Acura Integra DOHC 88-89 Honda/Acura Integra DOHC (if you want higher compression) 85-87 Honda Civic DOHC Good luck! Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
I'll see if I know anyone here that has a crankshaft they can send you, but you should also ask at www.redpepperracing.com. I'm sure someone there has an extra crankshaft sitting around!

Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
If that's $343 USD, that must be a new crankshaft since it's pretty expensive.
Seriously, ask at www.redpepperracing.com, you can probably find one there for around $75. These crankshafts usually don't go bad unless the motor spun a bearing, so you will be fine with a used crankshaft. A little polishing of the journals by a machine shop and a used crank will be as good as new. |

Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
The D16A9 is almost the same motor as your ZC1. All of the internal parts are the same, but the cylinder head is a little different, the distributor mounts are different, and the motor mount is in a different location.
You can use the D16A9 for parts for your ZC1, but the D16A9 is not a direct swap. If you try to swap this motor, you will need custom motor mounts and you will need to rewire the car from the motor to the ECU. |

Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
Thats great! I mean it's great that I can swap the parts from d16a9 to ZC1.. so the crankshaft is the same?
But it's a little expensive 'cause the engine is 500 euros, and I have to pay extra taxes at the board.. when the engine arives, and when I make costume parts it will be more than 800 or 1000 euros.. hm... that means I want to find an another solution, maybe a crankshaft, witch is not new, but it can be also good as new one..and it's a cheaper solution...so if somebody have idea where can I find a crankshaft for ZC1, please post me an e-mail... thanx! |

Re: ZC DOHC 1rst generation help about engine fit
The D16A8 crankshaft will work in your ZC. You will also need the D16A8 pulley since the crank snout is a different diameter.
