2001 Security light Starting Issues
My car would crank but not start and I read previous posts with the security reset.
The security light was blinking so I went through the process and the car started right up. Any way I am wondering if my ignition switch or key cylinder may be going bad. My car has 120k. If I wiggle my key, I can pull it out of the ignition with the car running. |

Re: 2001 Security light Starting Issues
i had the same problem with my grand am and had to have it towed an hour away from my house it was actually the starter that was making my light come on but it is most likely the ignition they are notorise for going out in grand am's my mechanic has done just about every grand am's ingnition in my town so i would go with that first then go from there

Re: 2001 Security light Starting Issues
If the key pulls out your lock cylinder is probly bad.
Over time the security light will come on more and more untill the cylinder fails completely. My SE almost has 190k on the factory switch and it pulls out but I dont get any security lights ever. I kinda like it like that. I can leave my car running and lock the doors at the station... one day though, it wont go back in ..... and I'll be screwed. ps- dont ever spray lube into the cylinder ![]() only dry graphite lubrication. - it will toast the ignition switch.. and may not start.
