front axle seals

2001 tahoe front axle shaft seals. Which direction are these installed? I just want to confirm if the steel side is out or the rubber is out? this is the second time I will be replacing these is there some great "service" trick???

how much were the axle seals leaking? my seals for 7years now have from time to time caused a wetness of oil near them but this is usually when winter arrives.... then stops as temps warm....
