1995 BMW 525i

Just looked at 1995 BMW 525i that was well maintained. My question is this: It has 200,000 miles on it. How many an I expect to get if I keep up maint. on it? Asking $3,400 for it. Good deal?

Re: 1995 BMW 525i

well, it kinda depends, $3,400 seems about right but check it at kbb.com, a website that will tell you pretty accurate car values. Now about your question, BMW's are very well built, and have been known to last a very long time especially when they are very well maintained. However 200k is a lot of miles and even continuing the perfect maintainance will not guarantee a long life. If I could make a fairly uneducated guess about this particular BMW i would say it will only last you another 100k-150k more miles if you are lucky. Also BMW doesn't really stand for Bavarian Motor Works, it actually stands for Bring My Wallet. But don't get discouraged away from all BMW's they are really phenomal machines, they are stylish, sporty, and soooo much fun to drive. Just find the one that best fits you and don't forget to Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) the cars before you buy them it is a big help.

Re: 1995 BMW 525i

I used to have a '92 525 (the same car) and it was great. From what I hear, the automatic transmissions can be the weak spot in an otherwise well maintained car. They can be awfully expensive to repair.
KBB lists that car at $4050 in fair condition and NADA shows it at $4075 low retail.
Have it thoroughly checked and if it's OK then to me it sounds like a decent deal.
Good luck.
