97 lhs won't start Help !!!

Here's the story .

I have a 97 lhs with 167,000 miles . over the week end it died while driving , went back a few hours later to tow it home and it restarted and it ran fine . The next time it drove / ran fine for a 25 mile round trip drive , with one exception the RPM gauge spiked while driving ( I don't know if the engine revved or the gauge jumped wife was driving ) . Now it wont start and run on its own ?

I can occasionally get it to start , but it won't idle by itself you have to give it a little gas to stay running , but when you let it die the RPM gauge stays Right were it was running prior , the needle stay at that point for about 5 seconds then returns back to 0 .

When it won't start you can not here the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key , and the injector doesn't seem to be getting any signal to spray ( used a cheap test light to test ) while cranking the engine over .

So what to look for ?? CPS , CKPS , PCM ???

Well Jared, I have the same problem with my '95 LHS. I can start it up with no problem. The engine runs very smooth and it drives good for about 20 miles. Then it will stop. After 5-30 minutes it will start again and go for another 5 miles and then cut off again.
I have replaced the camshaft and crankshaft sensor. My mechanic tells me there is nothing wrong with the fuel pump. He tells me that when the car will not start that there is no fuel or spark. He called a tech line, and they could not figure it out. They seemed to think that it was the crankshaft position sensor. I have already replaced this, but with an aftermarket version from Advance Auto. My mechanic recommended that I try a CPS from the dealership, and that from his experience the aftermarket sensors are no good. He said that if that is not it, then it is probably the PCM...

Try having the (ignition control module) tested at autozone.It sits under the coil packs

I unfortunately just bought a 95 LHS which ran beautifully on the intial test drive. However, on the way home and every 20 miles thereafter have had the same problem. I gave my mechanic just about all of these threads to give him a headstart, but he said "I gotta $10,000.00 analyzer that will tell me everything I need to know." 2 months later I finally got the car back today. (His analyzer must speak very slowly). We replaced the cam sensor and crank sensor which didn't seem to fix the problem. Same with the fuel filter. We ended up replacing valve cover gaskets because there was an oil leak that was leaking oil onto the wiring harness. My mechanic (who I also wonder about) thinks that was the problem since by replacing the gaskets we stopped the leak, we replaced the wiring harness that was soaked with oil with a new one and since then it's gone 60 miles without stalling so far. Hopefully this will be all. My mechanic's words as I was driving away were "Stay away from american made cars, they provide me with about 80% of my business." Thanks.
