Question 92 olds 88 replace/repair speedo head only?

Hi all. I have a 92 olds 88 with only 70,000 mi. The speedo head is bad and this is confirmed by a mechanic. Can the speedometer head be replaced without replacing the odometer? The speedometer is electrical and does not use a cable. I'd like to keep the original odometer because of the low miles.

If not, can speedometer shops repair the heads reliably?

Lastly, if the needle has to be pulled off to removed, how do you put the needle back on so that the speed reads correctly when it's reinstalled?

Thanks for the help.
