Re: gas mileage on a 2000 dodge ram 4x4
K&N air filter or even better a cold air intake, new exhaust with mandrel bends. Get a tailgate with louvers in it or take it off, and some people (I have been looking in to this one) are putting acetone in their gas. You can read about that in the fuel economy forum in this site. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=385048
the fuel economy forum is a good place to get ideas.

Re: gas mileage on a 2000 dodge ram 4x4
13 mpg in what type of driving city/highway by mileage? 50/50, 80/20? 13 is about right if you are driving a significant amount in the city.
Don't take your tailgate off! Keeping your tailgate on and up (closed) is the best for mileage (on highway). A bed cap will increase mileage, a tonneau might also. But it seems you're looking to save $, and neither is exactly cost efficient.

Re: gas mileage on a 2000 dodge ram 4x4
Mythbusters did confirm this. They took two Ford trucks with the same options, one with the tailgate up and one with the tailgate down. The one with the tailgate down ran out of gas first. Is it a 318 or a 360 under the hood? The 360 is a gas hog

Re: gas mileage on a 2000 dodge ram 4x4
www.airram.com look for his power wire, and jet stream scoop, they are both very cheap, and will help get a better mpg and make u a lil faster in the process.
and like other people said, a cold air intake and a free flowing exhaust, although those are a little more expensive. on that website he sells a cold air intake he makes himself, i don't have it personally, but everyone i know that has it say it's great for gas economy. the tonneau is probably to heavy to benefit much, maybe a lighter soft cover is better. and absolutely DONT get a throttle body spacer, it's not gonna help u increas mpg.
