Fall of the Z28!!!??? Me vs wrx vs turbo SI

On my way back from Wal Mart earlier this evening had a little fun on the highway!! My lady friend Sarah(yes the same one Matt) was riding shotgun. As we get on 460 West it's one of those situations where the onramp merges from two to one lane before getting on the freeway. I'm in the left lane, the one that continues. I notice a black WRX pull up beside me in the right lane, the one that has to merge. I see him kinda gun it and then slow back down again, like he's waiting for me to make a move. I'm usually the one giving the other person the head start but I figured sure, why not.
I downshift into second(going about 40) and put it to the floor. Wheelspin wasn't TOO bad, and I pull about 2 cars in second. Chirp into third and pull another 3 cars or so on him through third. He then just merges behind me and we both get onto the freeway. A few minutes later he passes by me and shifts into my lane while I"m cruising at about 60 or so. I got kinda scared, and thought he was going to be ghey and try and give my shit on the road like slamming on his breaks or something. I understand what's going on when a black SI zooms past me and I hear a LOUD blow off valve(Sounded AMAZING!!! ). He pulls up next to the WRX and I tell Sarah to hold tight, heheh. They slow down to ~35 or so, and then go for broke. I kinda lay off to stay behind them, and when they end it, I'm going about 100 so I figured they were at around 120. The SI DESTROYED the WRX by like 8 lengths!!! They slow and go again, same thing.
The guy in the SI sticks his hand out the window and waves for me to come on. I switch behind him and the WRX falls back behind me. I switch back over and move next to the SI. We slow to about 30 and I let him go for it first. He takes off and through second and third he pulls to about a car length ahead of me and holds that through fourth until about 115 - 120. I LOST!! We roll down the windows and I yell to him "Let me set the pace this time, but you still go first" and he yells back, "Whatever floats your boat" with a smile. I smile back and roll the window back up. I decide to go from 60 this time, see if things are any better for me. We go to 60 and he takes off again, this time pulling a bit further ahead, maybe 1 and a half cars or so, once again up to 115 - 120. I roll the window back down and say good run and he returns it. The freeway is coming to an end so when we pull up to the light I ask him if he'd give me another chance, only this time with spray. He agrees..."SUCKER" I think I open the bottle, purge, and arm the system at the light. We take off slow as he wanted to go from a roll again. We go up to about 30 again and he guns it. I do likewise and the nitrous kicks in at 3300 and full throttle. Major wheelspin as expected, but I still manage to stay just a half car back through second. During third, more spinning, but I pull about 2 lengths easy, and through 4th another length. End up winning by about 3 in the same area, 115 - 120. We pull together and say good one again and then pretty much go seperate ways. First street loss in a while...Kind of scary, lol. But I redeemed myself. Can't wait to get to a track now, felt SO STRONG! And it's only jetted on a 150hp shot! 100 more hp for the track!!!

Turbos can tear it up at higher speeds like that. Good try though, at least you got one win.

One of the coolest races, definitely. It's Civic people like that that make me proud.

Surprised is an understatement. I was mentally blown away. Definitely wasn't expecting the car to be that fast. Easily a mid 11 second civic to stay ahead of me like that. I would like to know how much boost he was pushing, probably in the 18 - 20 lb range. Maybe I'll see him around. I'm positive he goes to school here, as EVERYONE in this area does. It's the only thing here

Ha! I wish. Some of the old timers might remember I started down that path the summer before last. Bought an intercooler, made sure my engine was in good condition and ready to handle the power, and reworked my fuel system so it would be up to par for boost. And then I realized I was about to drop $5k mininum into this estranged TT project. Had to end that quickly It got VERY expensive VERY fast. I wish though, I really do wish. Maybe some day further down the road.

Hahah, the 1996 isn't a convertible But no, not that one. We're talking about the 1995 Z28. YES, the one with the history of rear end problems...Why do you say holy shit??

Nice race story, Self! That is indeed one fast civic.

I'm curious, was that the new SI or one of the older models?

i would suggest a blower, but since you already started on your turbo project last year, i guess you gotta scratch out the idea of a blower now.

Old timers, you registered a month before I did

Well, if you already have a strong engine, and intercooler, and have made the necessary fuel modifications, then all you need is an ignition controller, headers and a couple of junkyard T3s from a Thunderbird. They've got great trim for TT V8 setups.
