problems with 2002 grand am se1

1) idleing is slightly rough, changing with in 100 rpms about 630 - 730ish or so

2) i have noticed it jumps 500 rps by it self and jumps forwards, not hard though

3) and yes, lame GM did not recall the faulty gasket and it is giving up the ghost on my car the lower intake gasket. so I will have to do it my self or use money poor little collage student does not have and bring it to a shop

any info on theese problems?

I wouldnt say your idling troubles are a LIM.

How many miles on your car?
I assume this is a 3.4 , here is a link that covers most of it.

You could change your head gaskets too since you have the motor torn down that far.
If you just change the LI then you would need the lower intake gakset kit; LI, UI, valve cover gaskets, and maybe the TB gasket and a seal or two.
A full kit minus teh head gaskets costs about $150 at Napa.

hey thanks, will those gaskets hold up? I heard the replacments are no good either.

and my car has 100,4?? somthing miles on it. only about 6k or so are mine, hehe. the car had 95k on it when I bought it for 3700 it was an awsome deal and the car works really well. I will probably be changing it week after next, so if there are any tips you could give, that would be awsome, like, do I just slap the gasket on? and bolt everthing back up?

Just remove stuff until you can take the lower intake manifold off, then clean all surfaces really well. There is a rocker arm release tool that makes the job SO much easier, it just slips over the arm and lets you slide the pushrod out without removing the nut. About $12 and definately worth it. Follow the torque specs provided with the gaskets. Just take your time and pay attention to where stuff goes. It's not very hard, it just takes awhile

Talking almost done replacing lower manifold gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, two long days, almost 10 hours and I got the lower manifold back on. now I just have to put... well everything back on. hehe. the sad thing was the persone before me already had the leaking manifold problem, but was to lazy to acually take the gasket off and tride to repare it using a bunch of gasket goop. HA! so I did it right removing every single rocker arm, glad that the valves are self adjusting. now all I need is GM to recall the cars for the gasket problem tomorrow, and I will be happy... NOT

ok, any one need info on changing it them selves, let me know. I am glad to help

yep ok, wondering where it went, hehe almost 15 hours and the darn little O ring on the conector to the fuel lines poped off when I pushed it in so now I have to take the upper intake off again (GRRRR) and then I can drive it home and wash the engine down and make it all perdy again.:-D

A tip for anyone else (or you if you ever have to do it again) doing a lower intake, don't remove the fuel lines. Just remove the fuel rail with all the injectors and fuel lines still in place. The hoses will bend plenty to just sit the fuel rail out of the way. I usually wire it to the hood hinge (drivers side) to keep it in place.

right, that is what I did, well, acually, I took it off the lines, and thinking now that I had a fuel leak after and had to take the upper intake off again, I agree, do not take it off the lines, hehe, I'm finally done! yay!
