95 check engine light and brake light on

This is a friends 95 Voyager and I have not looked at it yet. She tells me that intermittenly the Check Engine Light and the brake light come on for a short period of time then go off. I know the airbag light is on all the time. She said the brake fluid level is fine. It runs fine and brakes work fine.

When I get a chance I will check for codes.

Would this have anything to do with the clockspring by chance or could it be the dreaded instrument cluster malfunction?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: 95 check engine light and brake light on

I would suspect if you pulled the error codes with the key dance you would see a MIL Code 65 meaning your brake switch has a problem. That's the only thing I can think of that the brake light and check engine light have in common. It's on the front side of the brake pedal. It turns the rear brake lights on and off as you apply the brakes. Been on forums for ages and don't recall this code coming up before.

Your airbag light is another issue. 95s had a recall for shorted wires in the system blowing airbags NHTSA ID # 99V113000. It doesn't specify where so can't count out the clockspring. Try disconnecting the battery to reset it.

Do you have ABS brakes? May be something else to look at.
