I was wondering if it would be possible to bolt up a 93 rear lsd to my 98 tsi. If so
cool, but if not then why? thank you Ben |

Re: 93 rear lsd to 98
Well, I am almost certain that all rear ends are LSD's and the 93 and 98 should both be 4 bolt rears. I dont know if there was a difference 1g to 2g, but Thor's guess is no. Check on that though for sure.

Re: 93 rear lsd to 98
Not all 1g's had 4 bolt rears. IIRC, only 94's had 4 bolt rears and all the others had 3 bolt rears. Whereas, all 2g's include a 4 bolt rear. As far as being interchangeable, I don't believe they are. They run a different spline count between the two generations. Of course I could be wrong and somebody else may know the facts like the back of their hand...

Re: 93 rear lsd to 98
Brian, the 4 bolt came in 92. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they all had 4 bolts from then on. Thats why 92 is a popular year for drag guys, some already came with a 6/4 combo rather than having to swap one or the other.

Hey ben , did u figure out about the LSD? I've got a 93 and I need to find an LSD for it, so I'm wondering if I can use one from 95-98 on it. Let me know. Dave

Re: 93 rear lsd to 98
1G and 2G rear ends are NOT interchangeable. Subframe mounting points are different between the two.
