Lunar eclipse tonight

Fun stuff to watch

http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...ipse-news.html
Quote:
The moon will enter Earth's umbral shadow (the full shadow) at 8:43 p.m. ET (that's 7:43 p.m. Central, 6:43 p.m. Mountain and 5:43 p.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, Feb. 20. It will appear as though an ever-larger bite is being taken out of the moon.

Some 78 minutes later, the moon will slip into full eclipse. About 51 minutes later, a bright scallop will appear as the moon starts emerging. It will be completely out of the umbral shadow at 9:09 p.m. Pacific time, which is 12:09 a.m. ET on Thursday morning
You'll also be able to see Saturn tonight as well

weird it should be a full eclipse by now but it doesn't look like it.

edit: nevermind I thought the whole thing was supposed to turn red, but upon further research its not.

I'm in FL, it's just above 60 and was pretty cold to me. I'd hate to live back up north again lol.

Guy on another forum I'm on took a really good pic of it:

Saturn is just below, and to the left of the moon.

Re: Lunar eclipse tonight

I saw a partial eclipse when driving home from dinner. Didn't care to go outside to watch it when I got home, too damn cold. Plus, I was pissed about something.

I think you are thinking of a solar eclipse, which will damage your eyes if you look at it.

A lunar eclipse is just when the moon is blocked from light by the Earth. The light that illuminates the moon has been curved by earths atmosphere (and possibly gravity?)

Re: Lunar eclipse tonight

Yeah, Lunar eclipse is a vice versa effect of a Solar eclipse. Solar eclipse is when the moon blocks the sun from our view, a lunar eclipse is when we block the sun from the moons view.
