Hello everyone!
I am having trouble with my gas cap on my 05 chevy malibu. It doesnt seem to want to tighten when replacing it after fueling up. I went to Autozone for a replacement cap and im having the same issue with the new cap. I also think this is the reason im getting a check engine light. Any and all suggestions or answers to my issue would be great before I use my last resort.... ( the dreaded dealer ). Thanks in advance!Daniel |

Re: 05 malibu gas cap prolems???
Go to the delaer, if you haven't already. There a few Technical Service Bulletins on this issue, that the dealer can check out.
My '04 Maxx had that when it was brand new. I'd been getting a warning in the Driver Info Center about checking the gas cap. Turns out I had a warped fuel tank, that had to be replaced. I forget if any '05s were affected....mine's a late build '04, and if yours is an early build '05....could be that issue. |

Re: 05 malibu gas cap prolems???
I encountered the same problem even with a new OEM cap. Disconnecting the battery cable for ~5 minutes corrected the fault light. Hope it helps.
