What temp does your guage normally read?

My temp is usually right below 210, but if I'm sitting in traffic it will rise close to the red at times (like 3 marks away from the red). I recently had my cooling system flushed so I'm not sure if its just a GT thing or what.

most definitaly not. your GT should run real close to 1/4 of the temp gauge. anytime it should go over that is when your sitting in traffic for a period of time, or the car is just idleing.

when you got the coolant flushed was the T-stat changed? also...what type of coolant was used??

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

I did change the thermostat & I used the orange coolant. However, the guy I bought it from did have green coolant in it, & I'm unsure how long he was running it like that. According to the owners manual, my temp is normal most of the time, it only rises when sitting in traffic or idling for extended periods like you said.

None of my other vehicles ever have a rising temp reading when idling or sitting in traffic, except when running the A/C.

I think the cooling fans turn on around 220 degrees, but normal operation around 210 sounds a bit high to me.

Sounds a little high to me as well, just not sure what I could do about it, if anything at this point.

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

you ever look at the front of your radiator? maybe its clogged or something?? I'm kind of at a loss of idea's here.

unless having green coolant in there for a while did anything. I'm dont know for sure what green coolant will do to a dex-cool system, but i heard it causes static electricity and makes all your sensors and stuff go crazy?

can the experts maybe answer this question? I'm curious now

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

I woundered about this my self !

My 97 GT runs about the second white numberless mark when driving and when it set in like a drive thur line or stalled traffic it reaches just about 210 line then it drops back down to the next white numberless mark !

I am the second owner of this car and have never flushed or changed the T-stat yet ** ITS ON MY LIST ** !Is this the norm is there a problem i should try to chase down !

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

I have no issues with sensors & I've had the car for almost a year. If you've noticed my other post, my only other issues are a burnt smell from the engine compartment on occasion, & a sound when accelerating with the heat on (the sound gets louder the more I accelerate).

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

The old green coolant will gel when mixed with Dex-Cool which can and will clog passages in the cooling system. The new Yellow "mixes with everything" coolant will not cause this issue. It's very possible you have a blocked up cooling system that is causing your car to run hotter than usual.

When you did the flush, was the coolant level low, or are you currently losing/using a bit of coolant? If so, you may have a UIM/LIM issue. The UIM's warp and fail around the EGR stovepipe, and the LIM gaskets crack at the coolant transfer passage. Both will cause mysterious coolant loss and eventually higher than normal operating temps.

Re: What temp does your guage normally read?

When I changed the coolant the level was good. I see no signs of coolant loss & my recovery bottle is where it should be. When I remove the rad cap, the dex-cool is about an inch from the top, I've topped it off before but it always drops down about an inch again.
