Almost completed... HELP needed..GB? Lemorris? ROBO? Blip?

Started a new thread... looks like the other one went dead ...

Here is the latest.. i just dropped in the wheels from the original Camaro photo. Anybody have any GOOD tut's or links to tut's on doing wheels in Illustatrator?.. maybe Lemorris, Girlbear or Roboduck?.. I see you all use illustrator frequently. I know we are all busy..so ANY help on this topic greatly appreciated..thanks again.. time to start the next image..what will it be...

had a feelin you were havin some wheel troubles when I didn't see any lines in there.

Unfortunately there is no secret.

Place the photo you have in Illustrator. Double click the layer and make it a template layer. Add a new layer and use the pen tool.

here's a quick tute from my site of me doing some wheel work. My method is just 1 of 1000 but it might give you some idea.

I used to have a pen thing somewhere but it's gone.

use the pen tool and draw over your wheel pic.

When you're done save the Illy file with the template layer off. Open it with Photoshop. 300 dpi anti-alias turned off. copy and paste it into your other drawing. scale to place and than add to your lineart layer.

there's a lot of little steps but ultimately you just gotta draw it man. Do this on now and your next one will be easier.

There is actually a top secret button in illustrator cs3 that very few people know about that will draw hard stuff like wheels for you.
I would tell you but I am sworn to secrecy by the Guild of Digital Auto Artists. Cool Camaro. BTW.

thanks Lemorris... your tutorial was great... came in handy..i got the basis to start with... just have to do what alot of others say.. STUDY wheels of cars on the street and get designs to work on.. thanks again though... your top notch work is an inspiration to me and probably countless others on here..

Well i agree with lemorris. Here what i got 4 ya theres a couple ways ivedone this. illy is the best way to start. Then i use photoshop and image ready. U can take the 1st route wich is generic looking chrome and reflections. Or u can try and create a realistic chrome/reflection lookin wheel. the 2nd took me several hrs. I enjoy shit like that tho. As you can see im far from finished with it. Sometimes it get frustrating. Had to take a break from it.

Geez..just when I thought my wheels were looking good.. along comes Girlbear... and just has to show that image again?.. LOL... I cant get over the detail and range of colour you use there.. WOW...I am embarassed to show my first attempt.. but know I have made ways already.. thanks for grounding me GB! Anyways..here ya go..this is what Ive got so far.. I am sure it will change AGAIN...lol

Shit yeah! The wheels are a major improvement. Listen I have no life. I spend hours days f-ing with this. My 1st attempt with this crap was bad. but with every 1 i look at it and find how i can improve on it. Thats the best thing with computer gen art. nothings permenant. until u want it 2b. look my very 1st serious illy/photoshop. Im not try'n 2 use ur thread as a pic post 4 my shit. I just wanna sho ya how my process works. this is about the 10th generation of this ford. still couldnt figure out the chrome and how 2 do the wheels. but several hrs and days l8r i got it. trial and error. thats it.

Well, this may help. In Illustrator, once I do an ellipse, I copy and paste on top, numerous times, reducing the oval to fit inside.. I do a separate layer for wheels and tires... I use one of the ellipses to structure the wheel.. keeping or deleting as needed. That ellipse helps me keep the wheel (spoke, hole patterns, etc) straight. Robo

There's plenty of great advice here already. Lemorris' tutorial is a great reference to use,
and I'm still studying those wheels that GB made for the pickup, just incredible.

Here's something a made a while ago of how I create wheels/tires using a vector drawing program called Expression 3.
Sort of a much easier-to-use version of Illy (but not as many features).
All of my line work and color fills are done in this program, no PS painting for me.
