2005 Ford F-150 tires

I purchased a new 2000 F-150 2wd and now have 18000 miles on it. The front tires are almost worn out especially on the outside. When first purchased, the tires were out of balance and dealer could not get them balanced without having to road test balance them to get the shimmy out of the steering wheel. The tires were badly worn then over a period of 5000 miles. Now with just 18000, they are almost gone. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? The vehicle seems to run smoothly with no more shimmy, but the tires are gone. Thanks!

Re: 2005 Ford F-150 tires

1) Had your front-end alignment checked? Do so, The leading cause of single edge tire wear is mis-alignment.

2) Buy new tires.

You put very little miles on this truck (and tires). Tires can go out of round from sitting.

As for: "I purchased a new 2000 F-150 2wd and now have 18000 miles on it. When first purchased, the tires were out of balance and dealer could not get them balanced without having to road test balance them to get the shimmy out of the steering wheel."

Pretty much sounds like BS to me. "Road test balance"? There is no such thing.

I assume you had a low speed shimmy when the truck was new?

For future reference if they can't balance the tires when new, you ask for new tires. If they blame it on the car, you buy elsewhere.
