Re: 97 suburban turns over but wont start

You need a minimum of 55-61 lbs. of fuel pressure at the test port on the fuel rail 2 sec. after you turn the key to "ON" ...NOT START. The pump should come on and run for 2 sec. and then shut down after it pumps up to pressure. These Vortec's are very picky about the minimum fuel pressure and sometimes won't start if it's even 1 Lb. too low. I fought my 97 Suburban for about 6 mo. with long starts (5-8 min.) and my pressure was 54 Lbs. key on not running. Replaced the pump about 18 mo. ago and it's been fine since. You might try replacing the in-line fuel filter first since it's much easier and cheaper than the pump. It's located along the frame rail just behind the driver's seat. I would only use the WIX brand and they have an arrow on them indicating which way they go on. FYI, mine had 118K on the OEM pump. Good luck.

Glad you found the problem and hope your tank wasn't full...

welcome to the forum .. If you have a problem start a your own new posting , give your vehicle details. also what was done or tested. with no start check fuel pressure. your vehicle should be 60-66psi key on engine off. use a pressure guage.

Thanks for your response but I am not sure how it answered my simple question.
If someone else could give the answer that would be great.

If you do not understand what I stated in the prior post you should have the vehicle towed to a repair shop for diagnoosis.

also get a repair manual for your vehicle then post back with what testing you did and what the fuel pressure is. also any DTC failure codes pulled.

once again you are responding to another members vehicle issues. make a new post with your issues and give vehicle details.

If you do not want to answer the question then stay out of it, maybe there is someone else that might.

It's not that hard to figure out, if you are not answering the question then I don't need to hear form you.

Thank you once again for responding but I do not need another from you.

Re: 97 suburban turns over but wont start

On my '98 Sub the ground is on a support rail just forward of the tank. Close to center or maybe a bit to the drivers side.

Don't get pissed over the previous responses. It's really one of the hopefull rules of the forum to start you own thread. That way you can give us all the particular issues you're having.

Dude,
JCat is one of the most helpful members here on the forum. He was not being a smarta$$, trust me. He was simply stating that if the previous post didn't understand the answer he gave, it would be time better spent taking to a mechanic. Sometimes I need to be told that too. Saying someone should invest in a factory service manual is also an excellent piece of advice. I have a shop manual for every car/truck I own.

Re: 97 suburban turns over but wont start

777 Stickman,
Thank you for your response to my question I will give it a look. I was not as upset as it may have appeared but all I was looking for was a simple answer to a simple question. I was not looking for someone to make an attempt at diagnosing a problem therefore a long explanation of what I have or have not done was not in order.
I am a part of other forums and am familiar with duplicate questions and jumping in on a thread.
The fuel pump ground was mentioned and my question was not out of place for this thread.
Now, if this does not take care of my issue I may start another thread but we will see.
Thank you for your answer once again, I think any other discussion on this question would be a moot point.
BTY
My name is Rick not Dude as per a previous entry
Have a good day
