Data Recovery Software?

Can anyone recommend any data recovery software? A friend's computer had an error that wouldn't be fixed, so it had to be reformatted. Before the reformat, I booted in with an old copy of KNOPPIX and moved some images to a usb thumb drive. Unfortunately, something got messed up and most of the images didn't get saved on the drive. I checked a couple folders on the thumb drive before I restarted and everything looked like it was there, it wasn't. So I did the reformat thinking everything was ok. There are tons of images missing, from cars shows and for his business. I realize that the files may have been overwritten already from the reinstall of windows, but I'd like to at least try something. So, if anyone has any recommendations on a specific program please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Data Recovery Software?

Are you trying to recover from your USB thumb drive, or the computers hard disk?

If the computers hard disk - tell him to STOP USING IT straight away. The more data written to the disk, the less the chance of recovering anything.

If it was formatted with the NTFS file system, try a program called GetDataBack for NTFS.

Re: Data Recovery Software?

It's for the hard drive. I'll try that program and see what happens. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.

Re: Data Recovery Software?

The best one I have found it easy recovery professional. I used it at a job I once had. It will even recover raw data from a drive that has it's partition and format inforamtion erased. Good luck though, I've heard good things from get data back.
