DVD Ready ????

This may be a bone headed question but never the less.... I recently bought a 2004 Pacifica that has a 6 disc DVD changer but no overhead screen or display. The dealer sales person told me it was "DVD Ready".

So what is DVD Ready? Am I supposed to hang my own screen, then plug into the player with wires hanging all over the car? Generally, when you buy a screen you get the DVD player with it.... It just seems like an odd thing to do by Chrysler.

Does anyone know if there is some accessory I should buy to get this thing complete? Does anyone else have this "DVD Ready" package?

Re: DVD Ready ????

Hi
I think/know you have the 6 disc cd changer that has DVD capability if you also had the video system. Here is a link to Mopar.com that describes the unit I think you have and talks about its capabilities if you were to add additional components:

Hope that helps. If you are interested in adding the video system, you can buy it from Chrysler and there are dealers who sell via the internet at a sizable discount. There also is Ebay which often has accessory items listed.

Re: DVD Ready ????

I had the same issue. I was not about to spend $450.00 to $700.00 on factory unit; even if it came with wireless headphones. I purchased a 12" widescreen flip-down monitor off the internet for about $230.00 shipped and spent about $75.00 on parts including the Audio/Video cable. The wireless headphones go from about $50.00 to $100.00 for a pair. I actually made my own wiring harness for the back of the 6-disc DVD/CD changer. It actually has a diagram on the DVD player itself telling you what pin does what. It took me a couple of hours to solder the wires and connectors to use for the harness and once that was done, I epoxy'd the wires to the DVD player directly. It took me about a day to install the screen and run the wires but now that I know how to do it, I would say it's about a 4-5 hour job. But anyway, I've got a 12" flipdown widescreen for the kids to watch instead of a little 6" or 7" factory unit. And it looks like it rolled off the assembly line with it there.
*** I did research to try to find just the wiring harness but you can't get one PERIOD. Apparently, the wiring harness is permanetly attached to the factory monitor. Bummer. Also, no aftermarket company makes a wiring harness for the DVD player either. *** Necessity is the mother of all invention! ***
