Silver Spur Air conditioning

I have a 1982 Silver Spur. The other day, the clutch fell apart on the air conditioning compressor. I had a long way to go to get home and was able to tie the loose and rattling clutch plate up with wire so it didn't make contact with the pully and continued my journey fine(without heating and a/c) of course). I have located a new clutch unit for the compressor (Harrison model Nš 1131242) Can the cluch unit be replaced without the need to replace the whole compressor? As far as I can tell, the compressorīs fine apart from the clutch.

Re: Silver Spur Air conditioning

I took my car to an independant AC guy as the unit I have on my 85 Spirit is a GM/AC DELCO unit. Any competant AC guy can service this unit.If it was me, I would be replacing the compressor. I would not want to do that repair and then have the compressor go out in 6 months. This guy also converted my system to R-134 refrigerant instead of R-12. That conversion AND recharge with R-134 was less money than I would have had to spend just for the R-12 then labour on that. If your car still runs R-12, then its worth while thinking about.
