Unhappy Body Part Question

1991 Cherokee Laredo I6... recently backed into a piece of machinery and the liftgate snapped like a twig. Luckily, everything still works and the rear windshield is still intact.
What year(s) could I take another replacement off of? They all look the same to me up until about '95 but looks can be decieving. I just want to know so I can have her not leak when it rains (and it rather pains me to look at the back).
Are all the colors (specifically red) the same with the compatible years?
How much are we talking for a liftgate taken off another?
Thanks all...

Re: Body Part Question

The 97-2001 tailgate is metal and the third brake lite is different (among other things).

The 84-96 should be the same though and is fiberglass.

Colorwise, that is your decision.....mix, match, paint to match...

Re: Body Part Question

I'd think that the junkyard would be your best bet for a complete bolt-in replacement. They can usually match up the years for you also.
