power upgrades
i need to know where i can find parts to up my 93 3.4l v6 firebird. i don't know where to find anythign for this model since everything i've looked for came up for a v8. i'm looking to go boost on the car, prefer turbo. where can i find all the bottom end parts, and a single turbo kit? like, sites, brands, things of that nature.
the car already has a 75 wet of nitrous, and the heads will be taken off soon to be P&P. nitrous is the only part i have installed on the engine right now. the tranny has had some work though. i need to know where to find parts for the motor and good, TRUSTWORTHY brands to use. this is my first domestic car i've owned(i build hondas) so i'm kinda entering an unknown territory due to i want to try something new. any ideas of what to use? EDIT: will my v6 tranny bell housing fit onto a chevy 350 block? Last edited by tranbust42; 02-27-2008 at 11:53 PM. |

Re: power upgrades
a 350 small-bock swap would save you a whole lot of money and trouble.

Re: power upgrades
The 3.4L doesn't have the aftermarket like the 3.8L so it's not an easy car to build from.

i know when i turbo it, i'll be making the manifold so i can route it in the front the way i want it to be. and is there a way i can use the 3.8 pistons and rods? or is there a different stroke and compression? and i don't want to do a v8 swap since i want to take a base model car and beat some people i know with the v8's(they act like complete bad-asses and they own everything) |

Re: power upgrades
3800 Series 1,2 and 3 are based on the Buick 231 CID 90 deg. V6. 3.4 is a 60 deg. V6, using the same parameters as 2.8 and 3.1. No parts interchange. Bolt pattern for the bellhousing is the same between them, at least with the FWD versions. Can't say for sure about ther RWD stuff.
3.4 can be made to make good power for its' physical size. 3800 can make serious power. If you're really going to turbocharge it, I would look into a 3.4 "Twin Cam" version from a mid 90s GP. It has 4 valves per cylinder, tough bottom end parts, and can rev to the moon! In truth, the rods and crank for the 3.4 are stronger than those found in the 3800 (forged rods vs. cast, shorter stroke and large rod journals). Lots and lots of head work can make the iron heads work well, too. We've managed about 240 HP from a 3.1 with these mods. Runs real strong in a Fiero. The Firebird is heavier, but not as much as you might think. Fieros are heavier than they appear... Lots of goodies out there for 2.8 at the "racing" level, and most of it transfers to 3.4. Jim |
