For the money those things cost it wouldn't really be worth it to you. Vtec in sohc motors isnt exactley all that impressive as I'm sure you know. Keep that money and put towards serious hp increases.

What serious HP increase are you going to get with a SOHC anyways?

As someone mentioned it's not going to do much for a SOHC VTEC motor. YOu'd be better spending your money on something else worth while. HP to dollar wise is not good.

Also to tune it correctly you should take it to a dyno shop. Which means spending more money - usually $60 for 3 pulls.

For the money, no its not worth it. If you win one or steal one thats one thing but buying one is another. I went to UTI's open house and they had one laying on a unsupervised table, i didnt take it, but hay thats just me.

Factory setting on your ecu are right on. The only way that a VTEC controller would be necessary would be if you had a chipped ecu.

UHhhh, if your ECU is "chipped" wouldnt it then have the proper air/fuel mapping for it?

not to be mean or anything but youre all wrong. a vtec controller does not add any hp in an untuned motor and will not help in a chipped ecu situation either. the point of the vtec controler is to change the vtec crossover point. now certain cams are built to have the changeover at certain rpm's. the stock cams work the best with the stock crossover. raising it or lowering the crossover would cause lost hp. but if you get higher lift cams that are made to work at higher rpm then by all means get the controller and set the vtec crossover higher then the factory setting. but then again it all depends on the cam. not the ecu.

hope this helped

Yeah you are right about that. I'm glad thats over and done with and I wish I hadn't wasted all that money on the sohc vtec. The cost to rebuild the head would have been a little more than half what it costed for the b18c,

Do you have a garage?
If u do, better do all the work yourself, the money u save can go into more mods... if your head gasket blows, its not that hard to change it, u just have ot know the proper procedure.
But yeah good thing u got a B18C, i wish i could afford to buy one

a vtec controller is definately worth it providing you have the mods to use it. If you are runing a stock engine then no its not useful. It can however give you a couple more ponies if you have a mild to heavily modified engine because:

1. you can change vtec activation, more air through engine means the engine can use the wild cam profile at an earlier rpm = longer powerband more peak horsepower

2. you can adjust fuel curves which is extremely important when tuning your engine.

3. using turbo/supercharger/nos is easier and has less tendency to detonate and ping because you can richen up the mixture.
