CMP This Past Weekend

Hi folks! I ran GTRO-0049 this past weekend with NASA in the ST2 class. Saturday we qualified second in our class, and 5th on the track. The car ran good. We finished second in our class and 6th in the track. Sunday, we qualified first in our class, and second on the track. We managed to run second behind a super unlimited for 7 laps, and then we missed a shift and spun out. We finished 3rd in our class, and 10th on the racetrack. This is definately a great car. To see a video go to http://www.nasa-southeast.com/ Check out the forums and look at Falcon's post of the Thunder Race.

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

If anyone wants to try this track, SVO group still has openings for March 8-9 for the HPDE. A good chance to warm up for future competitions there.l

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

Welcome Bob. Glad you found this web site.

Nice new paint job. Your car was mostly stock at Barber last year. What have you done to it? So how does the car compare to Jody's Corvette? He runs ST2 doesnt he?

So is the Cobra retired? Or are you letting your son drive that one? We'll miss you in Time Trials.

We're hoping to shake down our car at RA in March. See you there?
Bill

Thumbs up Re: CMP This Past Weekend

Hey Bill. I did some engine work and supension work to get the car competitive in st 2. I ran some tt on sat at cmp to get used to the car but that wore me out. I ran the same lap times as Jody but i dont think RA will be as good with the long straightaways. Still a little Lt on horsepower or heavy, will work on that some more. The cobra is retired. Zach is running comp school at Ra in his 325, then will run gts2. See you at Ra. Bob

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

Cool.

How'd you like the new layout at CMP? Is it more conducive to Panoz's and Mustangs?

For PTB or TTB, they are calling it a "spec car" meaning that the modifications you can do are very limited. So I would expect that if you did any suspension/engine work, that would bump you into the TTS/U/R rules. Not sure how PT and ST are related.

I'm going to petition the TT director to allow the adjustable shocks (with the appropriate point penalty) that Gary is selling because it sounds like the "stock" shocks may be shot on alot of the cars.

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

Hey ,Bill. The track was more toward horsepower than before. David, cam, heads, injectors, lots of port work and pms management system. We also took off extra weight+ springs, shocks, sway bar, lots of work. Bob

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

I'd love the details on what you did... I'm Corvette buddies with Jody and that whole gang and would like to get into ST2 next year with the panoz.

What did the HP allowance end up being? Jody and I were discussing and it came out to about 320 at the wheels which would be a good heads/cam/intake on the 302. Did you stay w/ the 302?

What did you do suspension wise as far as shock and spring rates? I'm about to install fresh Konis and 550lb front springs and 350 rears... still need to find a rear swaybar.

Did you change the front bar? is that even possible?

Where'd you get a rear bar?

What else did you do to drop weight? Only thing I can think of is to ditch the passenger seat... that and go to a carb'd setup, but other than that not much to loose.

Which wheels/tires did you run? 18" or 17"?
Sorry for all the questions, but you've done exactly what I want to eventually do and any info would be awesome.

Re: CMP This Past Weekend

Hey David. The rear bar is from PAD. I live close to there. It was expensive but needed. We did most of the items mentioned in the next thread for weight. We still need to do more. rwhp 296. 18 inch wheels with slicks. Front bar is stock. Your shocks and springs sound good. Will you be at RA in March. Bob

Nope... stick closer to home... VIR is 3 hours from me. Will be at VIR this weekend and for the March NASA event most likely.
