I asked them several times and didn't get an answer. You mean for gas mileage? I had a 79 gmc, the only difference was power. It chugged gas like crazy regardless of engine setups.

Re: 1974 gmc

mine was a 2500 so it was hard on gas. I had a 305, a few 350s (one 2 barrel) and an olds 403 in it. They all, for the most part, used the same amount of gas. the 2 barrel just didn't have the towing power. I got maybe 8 mpg max. I had a friend that had a 72 half ton that got around 15 (highway)with a mild built 350 4 barrel and a turbo 350 trans. I think he had 3.08 gears but I'm not sure.

Re: 1974 gmc

axle ratio plays a big part in power feel/acceleration/fuel milage

i have owned a million of these trucks, and still own quite a few including an '80 K-20 and a '79 C-20, both 3.73 10.5" 14 bolt FF equipped, both 350 engine and Q jet equipped, and both TH400 equipped as well

the 79 is a trailer rig and hauls cars on 90 mile trips often, it uses about 3/4 of a tank on each trip

thats about 15 gallons

ir runs perfect, smooth, and is an engine we put in it after doing work on it to make it nice internally, including rebuilt heads and all new gaskets

the '72 would be a 3.07 ratio BTW, in the 5 and 10 series trucks

the 4bbl ones seem to be better on gas with normal every day driving

good luck!
