Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

As hard as I try, I just can't seem to build a red Ferrari. This kit is going together quite nicely. Revell if finally coming up with some Japanese-like engineering for attaching bodies and fitment.

Tires:

Chassis:

Engine dryfit:

When mocking it up, it appeared that like most Revell Ferrari kits, front ride height was too tall. Added some sheets of stryene and modified the front axle so it sits lower. Might be too low now....

Interior shots:

Pictures of the body in between coats of paint. Probably give it a few more layers of blue:

I like the blue, and nice job on the chassis and interior.

Re: Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

Beautiful color combo. Nice work, can't wait to see it finished. I enjoyed building mine. All I did to "fix" the ride height in front was to whittle down the axle stub so the wheel retainer could be glued a bit higher. The wheels/brakes etc. end up looking nice, regardless of Revell's strange wheel design.

Re: Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

nice work so far...the color is fresh!
say, any intention to add p/e disc brakes on the model?
the revell disc holes look a tag too big for ventilating...

also, what's the color of those rims you're gonna paint?
in this metallic grey? be careful not to 'dull' the whole car too much.

cheers!

No plans for PE brakes. Too much $$ for too little show IMO. Might try some PE Ferrari scripts though.

Tamiya XF-56 with Model Master semi-gloss clear and MM chrome on the nuts. Not sure what you mean by "dulling" the car?

I figured a non-red Ferrari would garner your attention. Your review of the SA is the reason I'm building this one! I did whittle down the front axle as well. By adding the strips to the arm, it keeps the whole axle solidly in place. Do your wheels slide down when you pick the model up? Truth be told, I think I lowered it too much. We'll soon see. This rim sandwich is a Revell staple. I've seen it on the F430, F360, Enzo and the Scag. At least they gave us the proper sized rims and tires!!!

Looks great so far, the kit looks decent too from these pics. Speaking of dulling, I'm wondering if the interior is a bit glossy here. It might just be the pics, personal preference anyway of course. The rims look excellent, nicely done!

In real life it has a nice sheen to it; much like leather with some conditioner applied to it.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

Small "disaster"... Noticed there was some discoloring in the rear bumper; paint had a silvery run. I wetsanded it down and spot sprayed through a hole cut in wax paper so as not to overspray the whole car.

Problem is, the blue looks to be a different color, almost more silvery. The rest of the car has clear except for this spot. Does the clear change the color of metallic paint? I'm using duplicolor paints.

Airbrush or spray can? Airbrush repairs like this can be easy. Spray can, not so much, they spray too much paint too fast to make a decent spot repair.

Spray can. I posted the question in the main forum, and it looks like the most viable repair is to just redo the whole bumper.

Quesiton is, should I primer over the bumper and then add the body paint, or just put new body paint over the existing clear?

And I was even taking my time on this one...

Re: Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

There's no guarantee you'll match the color if you reprime, so I'd try sanding it smooth and shooting right over the clear, as light a coat as possible to get the color uniform, and reclear.

Re: Revell Ferrari Superamerica - Not Red

I love your color combo. It made me wanted to pick up another SA.

How many styrene strips did you put on the front axle? I also lowered mine using similar method (I think I used two 0.020" (2X0.50mm), which translates to 1inch in real life)

I am sorry to hear about the mishap, hopefully you can fix it.
