engine knock
I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler and I have a knock in the engine I think.I took the valve cover off and all that is good and the rods aren't bent.I am not losing any oil pressure,it's not overheating, there is no loss of power and when you get up to around 45 or 50 or when you let off the gas at that speed the knock goes away. It's hard to tell where it is coming from but seems like it is on the bottom by the oil drain plug in the pan.If it was the flywheel would it knock at an idol?

Re: engine knock
How about some more detail on the knock? Does it speed up as you speed up? If you are sitting still and rev the engine, do you hear it?
Sometimes it's good to get a friend to push on the gas pedal while you listen. What did you find?

Re: engine knock
I did have someone rev it while I listen and what ever it is it really started knocking and now it wont even turn over it because it locked up and I clicked the key and it let loose but then it locked up again.I took the inspection plate off and checked the flywheel but that seems tight so I guess it must be a rod or crank bearings.

Re: engine knock
That does sound bad. It might be time for some major work...if you got any white smoke out of the tailpipe that's a sure sign something is burnt up, as is the non movement.
How many miles on?
