clicking sound when braking
My daughter's 97 6 cyl Malibu makes a clicking sound when you hit the brakes. I read somewhere that this was happening and the dash lights were dimming at the same time, so it was a battery or ground problem. We aren't noticing anything but the clicking when you hit the brakes. My husband thought maybe a brake light was out - but we checked that and the lights are all working when the brake pad is engaged. It seems to be coming from inside the car - it doesn't seem to be coming from the brakes themself - which are all new by the way.
Any ideas? |

Re: clicking sound when braking
I had something similar but that turned out to be one of clips on the calipers being installed improperly; but if you say its not coming from the brakes that might not be the case. The lights dimming isnt anything unusual though, mine does it too.

Re: clicking sound when braking
Does it happen when you brake at a corner or when in a straight line?

Re: clicking sound when braking
Sorry for the belated reply. Just to update - yes the car does have ABS brakes. Found that the left caliper was locking up, so my husband replaced that - and whether a fluke or maybe just an intermittent thing, the clicking has stopped completely - so unless it starts again, it may have been the caliper.
