used 94 530

going to buy a 94 530i soon want to be sure its no leemoan
if ya know what i mean looking at the engine noticed oil build up on the driver side of engine and the last two bolts on the left side also had some oil on them the car itself looked good body and interior but the asking was 8995 the car has 124k on it i talked the salesman to start negotion at 6000 after i got him to 4500 top he talked to the boss and he shot me to 5800 i said i would bring a tech and see nego from 58 down but after looking at carfax it has 18 reports i didnt buy the reports but if some one has the subscription the vin is: wbahe1324rge53887 i have a 535i and i like it but its automatic this is a manuale i did see that the 530i 1994 had some valve or something that was recalled but whatever just write as much as you can so i have some good ammo to throw at the sales guy ps asap my wife is pushing me to buy ill hold her as long as possible

That car may have had problems with the engine. You need to find out if it was repaired- some were not. This quote was lifted from Wikipedia/BMW e34:

"Both the E34 BMW 530i and 540i shared the M60 engine, which used Nikasil bore linings. In America and the United Kingdom this made both susceptible to premature engine wear, as high sulphur content in petrol in those markets resulted in deterioration of the linings. BMW then introduced an Alusil version of this engine, which solved the problem."

Unless the dealer can provide concrete evidence that this car was properly repaired, $4K is way too high.
IMO you need to find a good 525- they weren't subject to that problem. They are excellent cars and I see 'em all the time for under $3K. I had a '92 525 with a 5 speed and sold it 2 years ago with over 200,000 miles for $3K.
