Death Wobble??
i have a vibration between 60 and 70 mph. i feel it most in the steering wheel. it seems to be shaking back and forth slightly. if i slow down it seems to go away and the same if i speed up. i have balanced the tires. i have had the alignment checked one more time at the dealership and they said it was ok. the front end is tight. i have put new u-joints, tierods, and have match mounted all 4 tires. does anyone have any suggestions that i should do please help me out!!

Re: Death Wobble??
that definitely sounds like a tire balance problem. I would take it to a discount tire and have them balance and "road force" them.

Re: Death Wobble??
i had the tires balanced today and it didn't seem to make a difference. i also had them check the front end. they said that there was some play in the gearbox but not enough to worry about now. they said that it sould cause a vibration of any kind. so what else should i be looking for???? i am out of ideas.

Re: Death Wobble??
I though for sure it would have been the idler arm, where most guys get the wobble is from there.

if the wobble in steering wheel is speed related this is usually a rotating componet ......the wobble is between 60-70mph....if it wobbled all the time i agree some worn steering componet......... |

Re: Death Wobble??
did they rotate the tires after they balanced them?? If not try to rotate them and if its still vibrates the same. Also did they "road force them"? Road forcing simulates the tire rolling on the pavement and detects any other tire issues. I used to work at discount tire and saw this kind of problem all the time. and this is for sure a rotating vibrating because it only happens and a certain speed

Re: Death Wobble??
Check the rotors like j cAT said. That about all that's left unless you have CV shafts (didn't specify RWD or 4x4). Rust can build up between the hub and rotor and cause them to wobble (will also cause excessive wheel/tire runout). It doesn't always show up in the brake pedal either. Clean the front hubs, both sides of rotors (I'd have them machined while they're off, or replace if too thin), and mounting surface on the inside of the wheel.

Re: Death Wobble??
What about drive shaft? It could be your driveshaft is a little out of balance.

Re: Death Wobble??
Did you check the wheel bearings? Chevy half-tons are notorious for having piss poor wheel bearings. They go out anyways, and even quicker if your running wider that stock wheel/Tire.

Re: Death Wobble??
sorry it has been awhile, i have had the tires balanced twice now and it didn't seem to make a difference. i also brought it to a local shop and had them check the brakes. the fronts were due so they put pads and rotors on about 450 dollars. they said the rears were ok and i didn't think that those could be the cause since i feel it in the wheel. about the drive shaft? how would that cause a vibration in the wheel at a certain speed?? should i try going back to the place where i bought the tires and try to see if they would warranty them out or not even worry about it?
