1999 Chevrolet Z71-oh the problems!!

I just recently bought a '99 Z71 from my Uncle. He blew the motor about 3 years ago, and just parked in the pasture until August of '07. We replaced the motor, and it seemed to be running great! It is by far a gas hog, but we figure it's just the tires. (Oversized mud grips)
In December the "Check Engine" light came on, so we took it to the shop and hooked it up to the computer to diagnose the problem. It came up showing the cadilac converters we clogged. No problem! Took it in the next day, replaced the C.C.s and the sensors. Got it back a few days later, ran great!!
The gas gauge has always been, what i call "ADD"..it spazzes out at random moments and always shakes, it never has seemed to be a big problem. until NOW. The gauge will completely lie to you- it shows your full when I know i have about a quarter tank!- is this normal for them to go out? and what do i need to do to replace it?!
Also, (it's been sitting for 2 yrs...i expected a few things to go wrong with it! he he) the "Check Engine" light is BACK ON! and still reading that the C.C.s are clogged!!! what do i do?!
Oh- and the backup lights have decided they will quit working as well!! When you go back there and hold the wire-it works great. But w/o someone riding back there..they dont work!!!!

Is all this normal in the old body style '99s??

HELP!

Re: 1999 Chevrolet Z71-oh the problems!!

well, you bought yourself a vehicle with many electrical connectors corroded. if it was just sitting out in open air, elements aure took their toll on it.
they say to get to tank is a bitch, but i'd start with getting to the connector and cleaning it with electrical cleaner and relubing with electrician greese.
as a matter of fact, you might want to do this to as many connectors as you can find.

as of your trouble codes, reset your ECM, replace fuel cap, and run full can of seafoam through tankful of gas. fill her in somwhere close to hwy, add seafoam, flush with some gas in, and get her up to 70 for some 20 minutes.

welcome to the club. get tools and set a shop. we are sharing same "project" cars. will keep us busy every other month. i own 2000 one, for some 10 mths, had only 58K miles on it - i already had trannie switch and both windows regulators replaced, and am looking at replacing pitman and idler, probably along with damper this weekend. like i said - welcome to the club.
