96 Aurora

On the Driver Info Center (DIC) where the date is all mine says is "Date not available". I have read the manual on setting the date and still no change to it. After pressing Date and then Enter nothing happens.

Is there a battery or something that will hold the memory for this? Or does it use the car battery to do this?

Could someone help me in getting the date to display the date and not Date not avialbe?

Thanks

Re: 96 Aurora

DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) READS 'DATE NOT AVAIL.' #63-83-02 - (Mar 1, 1996)
SUBJECT: DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) READS "DATE NOT AVAILABLE" OR DISPLAYS DASHES (---) (REPLACE HVAC PROGRAMMER)

MODELS: 1996 OLDSMOBILE AURORA - BUILT PRIOR TO DECEMBER 8, 1995

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) DISPLAY READS "DATE NOT AVAILABLE" ON POWER UP IF DIC IS IN DATE MODE. CONDITION MAY OCCUR IN BOTH RUN AND IGNITION POWER MODES. "DATE NOT AVAILABLE" REMAINS ON DIC DISPLAY FOR UP TO ONE MINUTE, THEN PROPER DATE IS DISPLAYED. IF DIC IS IN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL (ETA) MODE, DASHES (---) WILL BE DISPLAYED INSTEAD OF NUMERICAL DATE.

CORRECTION:

IF "DATE NOT AVAILABLE" CLEARS AFTER ONE MINUTE, REPLACE THE HVAC PROGRAMMER WITH NEW HVAC PROGRAMMER, P/N 16218973. REFER TO SECTION 1C OF THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR HVAC PROGRAMMER REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.

IF "DATE NOT AVAILABLE" MESSAGE DOES NOT CLEAR, REFER TO SECTION 8C OF THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR DATE SETTING PROCEDURE.

Re: 96 Aurora

Thanks for the reply

But I don't have a service manual for this car. I only have a owners manual for it. I have been all over the place in it and can't find anything about changing the HVAC programmer. The only thing I could find was about setting the date which didn't work. The only thing it said was to press Date and then Enter then the numbers for the date. But nothing happens after I press enter.

Could you or someone please tell where I can find this info? or maybe tell me how the change the HVAC Programmer or about the Setting Date Procedure?

Thanks

Re: 96 Aurora

Could you tell where you found this info?
Or maybe post a link?

Anyone else have any ideas? It not really that big of deal but I would like to have it working. I just got the car used for $1500 and would like to work out some of the minor things.

Thanks

Re: 96 Aurora

I would 1st try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable.

The HVAC programmer is located (according to the book) at the Right hand frt of the passenger compt, behind the instrument panel.I don't know how difficult it is to get out.

Looks like it could an expensive part. If thats your only problem I would'nt mess with it.
