are you sure they are aftermarket?

I have bought sets of e-bay for $150 - they are still Ford OE.

I believe they are not ford parts.

Likewise, I bought coils from O'Reilly and when I opened the boxes, the coils had Motorcraft stickers on them.

The best and cheapest coils to go with are accell coils for the 5.4 or 4.6L Dohc (4valve) I bought mine from jegs. their yellow which kinda makes it look sporty also they have 20% increase in spark energy over stock coil. more hp more mpg. mine went from 16mpg to 19mpg city. their about $24 a peice. jegs have black coils basically the same in perfom.& price.

Interesting find. So did you go with the Jegs 555-40132 for $29.99 or the Accel for $34.99 that is black? I don't see yellow ones that are for the 4V engine.

Was the fit good, and appears like it will keep out water? Did you use these on a V6 or V8?

If they work well and keep water out, that's one heck of a good bargain and a good tidbit of info to keep in mind!

Thanks for the tip!!!

Re: Anybody ever try aftermarket coils? Good or bad?

I too bought coils from O'Reilly. 5 out of 7 of them got shorted due to oil in the wells. I have since replaced the gaskets. There is an issue with the part number, one of the coils won't fit under the cover. Its too tall. I dont remember which one but if you compare both the shorter one is correct. I got them becasue they are lifetime warranty and with this oil seepage issue this car is not going to 'pimp me' for coils. The O'Reilly coils work just fine.

Coincidentally after I changed 5 coils and then the gaskets, one of the OE coils went out. I took on one the old, supposedly shorted OE coils and simply cleaned it off. I cleaned the boot and spring with some wd40 and dried the coil off and blew it with some compressed air. Put it back on the car and it works perfectly.
