2005 elantra gls 4dr and brake issues

I bought my 05 elantra last june. I have replaced the rotors and brakes already. ANyone have brake pad issues?? They were replaced about a yr ago and the rotors were so worn they were replaced this past fall... seems the brakes squeak and squeal all the time and the right pads were more worn then left when replaced. I dont ride my brakes nor do i jam them at a stop either. Im sick to death of hearing them squealing all the time . they cant be bad already.. whats with this? anyone else have these issues or know about this ? is it a problem with this yr or model?

Biggest problem I see with squeeling brakes is cheap pads. If you replaced the pads, and then replaced the rotors later on, without replacing the pads at the same time, that could be an issue as well. If you put new rotors on, you should at least try to scuff up the pads some. See it come through the shop all the time. People buy the cheap $20 pads at Autozone, and they make noise.

i dont buy high end brakes, but i dont get cheap ones either. advance auto parts is where i get them from. the car was a yr old when i got it and maybe 7-8 months after i bought it i checked the pads and also noticed that the right was worn more so then drivers side. dont know why that was. i believe when i got new rotors, i was actually putting on new brakes and the mechanic said i needed rotors due to being so worn and thin...this was in the this past fall i believe i had that all done. but now the breaks are squeeling again and i cant stand it... they shouldnt be doing that already and not with new rotors either. just wondered if anyone else had these issues and if any reasoning for it. i wonder what type brakes the hyundai factory puts on the car when it was made?? maybe i should use them. or are they cheap too. ?

Ok, this will be long. The Hyundai ones aren't cheap. They list at $68.09. I can do $50.00 plus a few bucks for shipping if you want them. A lot of aftermarket pads will squeel, no matter how expensive they are, especially on imports. Don't know why, it's just the way it is. Also, the aftermarket pads short you on some parts that come with the OEM pads. In the pics below, pads are in bottom left. Aftermarket pads very rarely come with #s58144B, 58117A, or 58119. That could be another issue. Do they make noise all the time, or just when you are on the brakes. If it's just while you are on the brakes, it's probably a result of cheaper pads and/or rotors. I've never heard of the rotors being too thing after only 2 years. You can usually get them turned once, maybe twice before they are too thin. We have replaced them one the first brake service before, but usually due to the rotors being rusted onto the hub and damaging the rotors by beating them off. Try a different mechanic and get a second opion. Most places will offer free brake inspection. I would not recommend Firestone, Car-X, Midas, or any of the high end brake chains. I can already tell you Firestone will recommend brakes along with new calipers. I have had several employees that came from Firestone, and none of them could stand working there because they were trained how to rip people off. Every car that needed brakes needed calipers as well. I have 2 of them close to me and they both call me all the time wanting prices on calipers. They can't find new calipers in the aftermarket on a car that's only a couple years old. I ask them how many miles, which it's usually 30-40k miles. I tell them that they are covered under warranty if the car really needs them. So they don't buy them, and the customer never comes in here, because the car never needed them in the first place. The Midas, Car-X and such chains use really cheap pads that might only last you a year. Half the time they don't turn the rotors either, they just slap the pads on. We get customers all the time that we recommend brakes to. They don't like the $175 we charge for pads and turn the rotors. We will see them a few weeks later saying that our diagnosis of needing new brakes wasn't correct because they had brakes done at Midas, and they still made noise. Well, Midas put on cheap pads, and didn't turn or replace the rotors. Half the time, they will go ahead and let us do it at that time, after they already wasted $100 down the street for junk. If there is a Pep Boys near you, they are pretty honest. I worked there for several years. They don't half-ass any jobs, the put on quality parts, and they won't sell you something you don't need. So check around and get some other opions. Maybe even check your dealer. Some dealers offer free brake inspections. Here's the pic I referred to earlier in this book.

I got my front brake pads from Advanced Auto for less than $50. I believe they were semi-metalic. They lasted 70K miles of mostly local driving. You should get a second opinion before you agree to replace the rotors/pads.
