Exclamation 2004 Dodge Ram Stalling

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram with an automatic transmission that will stall when stopping at a stop light. It does it in any temperature. If you catch the RPM's dropping and shift it into neutral then the RPM's will recover. It acts like something in the tranny is pulling the engine down. I repalced the tranny filter a few months ago hoping that was the problem but no help. Any ideas?

Re: 2004 Dodge Ram Stalling

My prediction is that you Torque Converter Clutch is not disengaging. This will causes engine to stall at stops. Could possibly be stuck or the Brake Switch(signals to dissangage TCC) is not working. This will also cause high emissions.

Re: 2004 Dodge Ram Stalling

It is usually a bad TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) Solenoid. It will not open up to relieve the pressure on the clutch. It will act like a manual transmission vehicle if you apply the brake to stop without pushing in on the clutch pedal. The enging will chug to a stop.
People get the wrong impression of how the TCC solenoid operates. It does not turn on to supply pressure to the torque convertor clutch. It turns on to "trap" pressure. If the end of the solenoid gets a flake of debris on it, it will act like it is ON all the time. Thus, causing the engine to stall at a stop light.
