'05 2500 burb chirping noise

I bought an '05 burb and after a month or so there was a chirping noise in the engine. Took it to my mechanic's I call the boy's and they replace the alt. belt and tightened some torque thing. It was fine for a few miles then it happened again. Put on a new belt and after a few miles it was back. They think the belt might be the problem, it is not GM replacement. Could that be it or should they look for something else. They are both Chevy truck lovers and they say they have never had this happen to them. Can you give me a hint at what it might be so I can act like I know something and talk the talk.

this is usually a pulley bearing. do the boys have a stethoscope ?

If no stethoscope, a long screwdriver works just as good.

Spin all the pulleys with the belt off. If any make noise, you've found the problem.

If it is actually the belt, I would replace it with a GoodYear Gatorback belt. I've never had one make any noise. If you narrow it down to probably the belt, spray it with brake cleaner while it's running. If the noise goes away, it needs a belt. If it doesn't go away, spray it with silicone lubricant. If the noise goes away, it needs a belt. If neither affects the noise, it's not a belt problem.

j-ri take note that silicone use while engine is running is not a good idea as this chemical is damaging to O2 sensors....

Thanks guy's. I am having a new belt put on tomorrow. It is a Goodyear but I don't know if it is a Gatorback. What is the diff?

It don't matter. just make sure they put in the correct belt.. if the belt is too short it will stress out the pulley bearings. I have had intermittent idler pully bearing noise for 7 years now. but it also could be a belt that is getting hard making some noise i can't tell from here what it sounds like..if the belt has cracks in it and/or its 3years old and 50,000mi i'd replace it....
